Bihar, located in eastern India, is the third most populous state in the country.
According to the 2011 Census, it had a population of 10.41 crore (104.1 million),
which is estimated to have risen to around 13.5 crore in 2025.
The state is one of India’s most densely populated regions with over
1,100 persons per sq. km.
The literacy rate stands at 63.8%, with male literacy at 73.4% and female
literacy at 53.3%. Bihar also has one of the youngest populations in India, with nearly
58% of people below the age of 25. This demographic strength provides tremendous
potential for future economic growth if supported by strong education and employment policies.
Hindi is the official language of the state, while Urdu has secondary official status.
Regional languages such as Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, and Angika are widely spoken,
adding to the state’s rich linguistic diversity.
